In the 18th century, the house belonged to the Marquis Martin de Barjon, a noble arbois who emigrated during the revolution. His property was then requisitioned and the house sold as national property. It was bought by the estimator, a rich peasant named Jean Roussot! Since then, it has hosted several generations of peasant winemakers and has expanded over the years. In 1986 a cellar was set up in the old barn, in 1987 a 400m2 aging cellar was built and in 1997 a storage and labeling cellar was added to the set.
The site of Ch\u00e2teau-Chalon is impregnable, on the edge of the first plateau of the Jura, at the entrance to the famous remote area of \u200b\u200bBaume-les-Messieurs, famous for its abbey and its caves. From the many viewpoints on the edge of the cliff, the landscape is revealed: slopes of vines and green meadows below, a plateau where limestone outcrops with their clusters of murgers (low walls) and cabordes (shepherds’ shelters) at the top.
Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet moved to Ch\u00e2teau-Chalon in 1984 and the first harvest took place in 1985. In 2010, the Quinta was converted to organic farming. In 2013, his daughter H\u00e9l\u00e8ne, the eldest, returned to the Jura region and ended up taking over the property.
